Constructed of Burmese teak in the Far East, the “Convict Ship” Success is the most fabled ship lost in the Great Lakes.  While much of her story is true, showmen who exhibited her around the globe invented many yarns to impress visitors to the floating wax museum.

With Mike giving the “showman’s” point of view and Georgann “telling it like it was”, separating fact from fiction is half the fun as Mike and Georgann bring the legend of this renowned prison ship to life.
The Prison Ship Success
The C.B. Benson
Credited with opening direct trade from the Great Lakes to Europe, the C. B. Benson made several successful voyages of the Atlantic before succumbing to the waves of Lake Erie.  Today she is one of the most intact shipwreck sites in the lake.
Descendants of the ship’s captain and builder have provided artifacts, log  books, letters and  postcards mailed the day the ship was lost.  The presentation traces her much heralded history and examines the wreck as a dive attraction and archaeological site.
Correspondence from the captain revealing his premonition of the ship loss plays a central role in the story.
